Plastering, door frames and doors cost for Loft conversion

For various reasons, we've only contracted with our builders to do our loft conversion up to the point where we will have stud walls, a floor, first fix electrics and water and insulated external walls.

I asked them to quote for finishing it off (they won't do bathroom fitting so I will have to find someone to do the final plumbing for me) and they suggested just over four grand to plasterboard, plaster and fit doorframes/doors. It's not an enormous loft conversion, maybe around 25 square metres when it's finished, one bedroom with an en suite. Four grand feels like a lot to me, but I really don't know if it is? I was thinking of getting people in on a day rate to finish it off, but not sure if I'm just being hopeful that it will be cheaper.

I would suggest getting a couple of other quotes so you have a comparison

4K Probably about right. Remember that to meet building regs (and get it signed off) you will need to have fire doors and appropriate frames fitted throughout the house (not just on the loft room itself) Fire doors can be pricey.

Oh yes, but they're not included in that quote. The fire doors will be bloody expensive, but I'm pretty sure that he only means the two doors in the loft conversion, which should only be about £500 including frames. I wouldn't be able to get it signed off until after I have the bathroom fitted, an extractor fan put in in the bathroom, all the doors changed in the rest of the house and the fire alarm installed. None of which is included in that quote. Think I'll just wait until they've finished what they're doing and then talk to the on site guy, rather than the man who wants all my money...
