Portslade or other London commutable places by the sea

We're looking to move to the coast, OH needs to be close (walking distance) to a direct line to London.

We love Brighton but what we could get there in our price range is tiny so we're looking the other side of Hove at Portslade.

Amelie is 3 so we'll need to be looking at Schools for next year too. I know that Benfield had been in special measures but the early years provision looks pretty good there and at Portslade.

Any ideas on this area, we've been for a peak and it looks OK but insider knowledge or other ideas would be welcome

Thanks

M

I have family just over Boundary Road in Hove. It's a great location for children and the commute is definitely doable. Lots on for early years and the schools are on the up. The only thing to bear in mind for secondary schools (a long way off I know) is that places are allocated in a horrendous lottery system so you could get a place at a school on the other side of the city.

In my area -
Ramsgate, Kent just about 1 hour to Stratford or St Pancras.

Good choice of excellent independent schools (St lawrence college, haden dene, Dover college, and many independent schools at Canterbury)
and state schools - 2 local grammars with just a pass at 11+ required for entry.

Exceptional students may get in to Roger Manwood (Sandwich).
You need to be West Ramsgate to be in catchment for Sandwich tech - "outstanding" non-grammar.

Great state primary schools in Ramsgate are Priory, Chilton, and Ellington.

The direct trains to Victoria & charing X are much slower.
Whitstable is nice too.

I like Hove but it does look very expensive compared to East Kent.
