Has anyone used a chemical paintstripper? We have sn old garage metal door in need of repainting but need to take off old stuff first. Sandpaper isn t cutting it. What other options are available?

is it galvanised steel, or is it aluminium?

Is the old paint flaking off? Why do you need to remove it?

Can you borrow a power jet washer?

It's peeling off so needs to be stripped before new paint applied. A powerwasher wouldnt do this would it? I've never used one. I thought they were used to clean paving stones and thought I'd have to get something like nitromors or a heat gun?

Does that make a difference as to what can be used?

yes

A magnet will tell you.

You must not use abrasives on galvanised steel, nor acidic chemicals. You can use a wire brush on aluminium, but not caustic chemicals.
