House = 3 bed with normal amount of furniture

New house is 40 miles away

Quote 1 (from personal recommendation):

£1400 removals
£120 packing
£150-£250 materials

So £1670-£1770

Quote 2 (MN recommendation):

£925 removals
£275 packing
£100 materials

So £1300 total

BUT quote 2's insurance excludes damage to chipboard furniture and I have a lot of IKEA stuff.

I work full time and can't take any time off at all before the move so need the packing service. Was hoping to get the whole move done for £1k but obviously unrealistic. Not sure whether to go cheaper quote and hope for the best, or pay more for the first quote. Have never used a removals co before.

Don't want to out myself too much. But it's a 40 mile move so 80 mile round trip.

Well, I would recommend my removal company, cost was £1000 with full packing service/insurance/materials etc. We're in south east which might not be any use to you.

Think they may be too far the other side of the M25 to quote competitively given my location. But thank you!

I got loads of quotes because they varied so much.... £1k difference between top & bottom despite asking for exact same thing. I've gone for one of the ones that didn't get poor reviews when I googled them (pickfords/houts don't have a good rep & were the most expensive)
Can't compare as our house is bigger, involves some specialist items, we've packed ourselves & we're in the NE (although similar distance) but perhaps you need to get another quote & work out from that what matters to you most. Btw ours ranged from£800-1800.
