dh installed new kitchen tap and now the water smells and tastes foul

water stinks - metallic, chemical type smell
we have no idea where the smell can be coming from. tap is new and clean, and easy to install.
works really well, but I can't use the water for food or drinks

we are stumped. What on the tap is causing it?
If I run the water it gets better, but not enough to drink

good question about bathroom v kitchen I will ask him (he bought it)

but the smell as the water comes out is really strong, and I wouldn't want that in my bathroom either!

Has this been resolved? I have the same problem...
