quick question. out of these London rental places where would you live and why.

W6, near to the Hammersmith Flyover, but about 50 meters from the Thames, and a nice pub. Very quiet road. 2 bed garden flat. ok priced.

SW6 2 bed terrace, off Munster Road. more expensive. own garden, posher area, not as near to Thames.

SW18 East Hill area, 2bed ground floor flat with garden. Near parks. Same price as Fulham house.

You have one older primary school aged kid.

You are single, and looking for a fresh start.

I have lived in London ten yrs back for 12 yrs, in South East, near the Thames, and a famous park. I don't know any of these areas very well.
Just like to know a bit about them other than what I've read online really. It's a big step, and i currently live in the countryside, but yearn to get back to London.

I would go for the terrace if you can affprd purely as I have had bloody bad experiences with noise in flats. No to garden flat - a garden flat is posh speak for a basement, not enough light, lots of damp [voice of bitter experience]. Parsons Green/Fulham is nice anyway.

f you are planning on staying a while, have you checked out the local secondary schools?

Hammersmith secondaries are notoriously bad unless you go private or try for the West London Free School.

hmm, thankyou. The w6 one is Mall Road, but i hear what you are saying about the damp. ie it's a basement. It's location is pretty stunning, but i have to live in the place and me comfy.

It will be for at least 6 years. I was thinking that the Wandsworth one, whilst the same rental could be cheaper to heat, as it's a ground floor, only one floor above.
Was thinking a house with a loft could be more expensive.

The Wandsworth one is in such a lovely green area. The Fulham one is more road after road. Yet there is a good school very near it.

Living in a house is always better than a flat, for the reasons already mentioned.

Munster Road, very good school right there (St John's Walham Green).

A walk through the back streets to Fulham Palace Road, Fulham Riverside and Bishops Park (10 mins). A slightly longer walk or bus ride to Hurlingham Park, South Park, Eel Brook Common, Lillie Road Recreation Ground (playground for younger kids), Putney riverside.

Good bus service nearby.

Close to North End Road shops and Fulham Broadway tube.

I live in Fulham and used to live off Munster Road if you have any questions.

thankyou astitch. i will keep you in mind for questions. the one school i saw was the fulham cross one but its prob private. i can only go for state schools. i will look into thaw one you have mentioned.

what would make you choose Wandsworth. my thoughts were the green space firstly. secondly the green space .

I know Mall Rd quite well and say categorically NOT Mall Road. Dark, damp, q high crime. If you look away from the lovely stretch along the river and look at King Street as your local shopping district, adn walking from the tube (fighting to get past events at the Apollo q regularly, its a PITA), having to cross a dual carriageway on foot with children regularly, very poor air quality...

Fulham cross (now Fulham college girls) is a state seconday school.

Two of my nieces have attended Fulham Cross. One has left several years ago, the other is half way through the school. They have very good GCSE results. there, my older niece did well, went on to A'levels and Uni. There is also Fulham College Boys, Lady Margaret's, London Oratory, Chelsea Academy, Ashcroft Technology Academy, Holland Park School (last three out of borough).

Have you tried looking around the local areas using Google Earth? It gives you a better feel than just looking at a 2d map.

Wandsworth East Hill, near Wandsworth Common, huge green space, Wandsworth Town mainline Station (means you don't have to use the (dreaded District line) tube into central London), chi chi shops on Old York Road, good schools, South Side shopping centre, Waitrose and Sainsbury's nearby, area now included in the Nappy Valley region
