Vendor and buyer with same surname. It's going to get confusing isn't it?

We had an offer on our house yesterday from someone with the same surname as us. Something is bound to go to the wrong person at some point if we go ahead, isn't it?

Does the offer work for you in every other respect? In which case I think you'd be crazy to turn it down.

And your mail re-direction will be buggered too!

Just make sure you put Mrs Julie Anderton and Mr Buyer Anderton on everything that needs names - ie no Anderton.
Make sure everyone involved in the process is aware of it.
If the sale works in every other sense, and you don't have another offer to accept in preference, go for it, but check everything is for the right person.

Dh had the same when he sold his house and in his case there was a further complication in that the paperwork had to go to his solicitors, his ex's solicitors and the buyers. So 3 lots of people all with the same surname.

All went through very smoothly. They just ensured an initial or first name was always quoted which normally happens anyway.

The offer is on the low side and as we've been on the market for less than a week and have a couple more viewings lined up, we haven't accepted yet. We wouldn't turn it down on the basis of the name alone. Thanks for the tips on gettting things to run smoothly if we do go ahead with this buyer.

Yeah I think the main problem would be mail redirection, not the conveyancing.

Our sales/purchases used the name of the property as the key field (street then number), and names hardly featured - handy when changing buyer at the last minute.

If you're diligent about changing your address - there's lists online of suggestions - redirection may not even be necessary.

I hadn't considered mail redirection as being a problem, but every time we get post we add it to our "addresses to change list". Also the person interested in our place is a buy to let investor so hopefully they won't use our address for their mail.

We had this - and to cap it all the estate agent had the same surname AND last name as my DH. Amazingly this wasn't even in the Uk. Fortunately, it all went through fine but not without some odd moments along the way. Take the offer.

We moved house using a removal company with my surname. Our new neighbours all thought we owned the company!
