New shower - what do I need to think about?

Renovating the bathroom and have made most of the difficult decisions. Need to replace the shower and the only things I know is that I want all the bits that can be exposed, and probably a fixed head and a hand shower. What should I be looking out for? Was thinking of something like this or this

I was coming on to say do not get a fixed head shower - however, those ones you've linked to are fine. The fixed head shower in my house doesn't have a hand shower with it, and it's a complete PITA to rinse the walls after you clean the shower cabinet

Yes, we know exactly what we don't want because we've lived with it for two years - everything concealed and impossible to get to when any problems arise, no shower head in the bath etc...

As nice as fixed showers look, again I learned my lesson.

I love mine.
Beware that quite a lot of modern shower heads are 'eco friendly' and have a valve restrictor to reduce water flow and save water. I took mine out since I wanted pressurised water flow - yeah, I know it's not eco friendly but I didn't see the point of installing a Megaflow pressurised water system for powerful showers only to have a plastic valve restrictor in the shower head. HTH

Make sure you can turn it on without getting sprayed with cold shower water - ie the controls are to the side of the shower cabinet not at the back. Tell the plumber this is what you want, draw it on the walls and do not go out for the day while it is being installed.

...if it is a stand-alone shower check the type of seals that connect the glass cubicle to the tray - some of them are a real PIA to keep clean and after a little time you may find that you get water trapped in the seals which then turns to green algae and worse...
