Many of you have been following our somewhat tortuous progress - but things look to be improving at last.

Our buyers want to exchange next week and complete on 19th July! Gulp! Because we're downsizing, we need to get rid of lots of bits of furniture but I'm not prepared to do this until we've exchanged - just in case the sale falls through. I'll be busy on ebay and freecycle as soon as it's all certain!

However, we had the mortgage valuation survey - all fine - and were planning on having a Homebuyers survey for us before exchange. My dh is now questioning the need to do this: we know that the house is a 'project' because we've viewed with a builder who has given us projected costs for all the work we'll need. My question is, will a surveyor provide us with any more information than a trusted builder friend? I've always thought that the HB report is pretty vague and meaningless so is it really worth it?

TIA

I understand what you mean, TMT. Food for thought Smile

If the house has been checked out by a trusted builder I would save the money and not get a homebuyers report or a survey. The money you save will come in handy soon!

That's our thinking, BBB, but I know it might not be sensible! Confused

Well we paid for a full survey recently and all it said was "it is recommended that a specialist checks...".Angry
The stuff that he picked up upon (damp in the chimney, roof not felted) could have been picked up by any reputable builder!
