Recommendations for cat proof stair carpet/other covering

My cat has made a right mess of the stair carpet. She's old (but not ill or about to keel over yet) and is not going to change her ways now. I need to replace it and was wondering if there is anything out there that will tolerate a cat with itchy claws.

No, but we have painted our stairs and then bought individual stair pads to put on. They stick on really well, look quite nice and the cats tend just to twat one of them, which we replace every so often. Tried sisal. Oh my god. It was like cat heaven. Ours came from here

But my mum got hers in Aldi or Lidl, and it was £20 for 14 or 15 I think. They're not as nice though, bit brown.

I could buy a couple of those stair treads and I wonder if the cat would prefer them to the carpet.

We asked the carpet fitters to leave ALL spare carpet from our stairs & landing behind which we have stored in the loft for the inevitable replacement of the cat's favourite stair.
