Best Area - Secondary Schools - After-school Activities - Transport

I am new to the forum and I need some feedback from parents who have more experience in 'Moving to a better area'. We would like to relocate as the area where we live now is not great, no outstanding schools and no variety of good school activities. My children are 8,5 and 6 years old and I also home-tutor them after work.
When we were buying our first house we did not have much time and choice - I was pregnant with our second child. So, after we settled I found out a lot of facts that made me angry and sorry. We live in Bromley area (in the 'bad' part) and I actually read great reviews about BR6. We really love Chislehurst and would love to move there. One concern I have about this area is that it is a bit far from where I work and there are not many outstanding schools. My point is, that we may not get a place in the desired school, not that there are not such - just the opposite. Also, I wish that we have bigger choice of after-school activities as well: the ones that my kids attend are not satisfying.
It will be perfect if anyone can tell which area of Greater London you will recommend as the best option for modern parents (I mean working in the City and very busy)? We are looking for an area that has the biggest number of grammar or outstanding secondary schools, variety of choice of after school sports and activities and good transport links. We can compromise the price as long we are happy ... Essex? Loughton? All comments welcome, thank you. Or I am just dreaming?

Just stumbled upon your post and wondering if you have relocated or not :-)

I used to live in Chislehurst (when I was much younger) and now in Loughton (with my husband and daughter).

We moved there from Leytonstone, we wanted a good school for our daughter and to be a nice/quiet(ish) area.

I communte to central London to work (full time so every day) and got used to it now, it's about 50 mins away. When it comes to kids activities, it's not so bad here (but not as good as I imagined).

Hi, thanks for your response.
No, we have not relocated yet, still not decided where there are better secondary schools - this will be the main factor.

We are now considering Bexley as we did not find many grammar schools in Loughton - or am I wrong.

I currently commute from grove park to the city and it takes me 50 minutes anyway.
