Renegotiating house offer following survey - advice, please

Would it be reasonable to ask the vendors of the property I'm hoping to buy to knock some money off the agreed price following the discovery of damp and woodworm during the survey? It's going to cost around £3500 to treat the problems and put the house back to a reasonable state afterwards. I don't necessarily expect them to cover the full cost of this.

If it is reasonable to ask this, how does one go about it? Should I approach the vendors direct of do I have to go through the estate agent?

I think its reasonable as you couldnt have known about it when you viewed the property and made your offer.

Always go through the EA, thats why they're there.

It's a common thing to do. I'd go via the estate agent.

From what I understand, with issues like this reasonable parties assume to split the difference. I hope that will be case for you.
