1930s bathroom

Further to my earlier agh what do I do with my hideous bathroom thread, I got very excited to find earlier that the current hideous tiles are hiding some lovely brick-shaped tiles that I think are original. This got me thinking and the idea of having a 'vintage' bathroom now quite appeals... So, I have two questions:

  1. What would give the bathroom a 30s look?
  1. Will I be able to get the hideous tiles off without damaging the nice ones they're stuck on top of?

I have done a similar thing..it tends to be a plain tile with a black border (one thin strip one thicker) at either chest or eye level. Also a black tile skirting. Google Images are your friend....type 1930s bathroom into google and you will get an instant idea of the look.

But how do I get the top layer of tiles off?? Any ideas?
