Anyone have experience of a slow chain which seems to be getting longer?

We sold our house really quickly and had already had an offer accepted on the house we wanted. However that was almost 6 months ago now and we still haven't exchanged. For the first few weeks the issue was that our vendors lost two houses and are now on their third. However we have all been waiting ages now for the third house to go through. Our EA and solicitor are doing a great job of badgering but it feels like we are all being fobbed off. The problem is somewhere beyond our vendor's vendor where searches seem to be taking weeks. We have just heard that there's a new set of searches just started which will take another 6 weeks... Seems like this may be someone else added further up the chain. We and our buyers are getting really frustrated now but there doesn't seem to be anything we can do, and I don't think people further up the chain are being very straight. Does anyone have any experience of this? We really thought we would be in by the end of May, now it looks more like being August!

Sorry you're going through this. We had something similar when we sold our first home. Our buyer was the end of the chain but our vendor's end of the chain gradually seemed to get longer and slower. Even though on the EAs at our end were great at chasing, the problem seemed to be with some rural EA at the other end of the country with no sense of urgency and we just couldn't get a clear picture. We asked our vendors to move into rental so that at least they could sell and our bit of the chain could complete. They refused, so we pulled out, found a better place to buy with no chain and got it all sorted within 6 weeks. I was having a baby so wasn't messing around! But I wouldn't have waited anyway. I got this v strong sense it was not going to happen. Do you feel like that or do you still have some hope?

Land charges searches do not take 6 weeks. 15 working days MAX so you need to find out who is telling you this. There you will find the root of your problem.

Thank you. I know our buyers are hanging in there and I know our vendors are desperate too. Our vendors can't go into rented for various reasons and we can't afford to. In our area here it is really a sellers market and we haven't seen anything else all year we would even consider buying so I guess we don't have much option at the moment.

I will definitely get on to our EA and solicitor tomorrow to push a bit more about the searches. So fed up!
