Curved shower or squared shower

We're just redoing our bathroom and can fit a 800x800 square shower (with a 45cm gap between edge of shower and bath) or a 900x900 curved (quadrant shower) with only a 35cm gap between bath and shower at narrowest point, but with more room a bit further in if that makes sense. We've got 1 baby, but older kids don't really need 'hands on' baths any more. I think I prefer the look of the square shower, but would we regret losing the ever so slightly more space the curved shower would give us?

Or to put it another way, are curved showers a bit naff?

...not sure about curved or square - but check out how the glass is "fixed" to the bottom of the shower.

Ours has a strange T-shaped piece of clear flexible plastic which the glass panels slot in - beautiful when first fitted but over time the water gets stuck in the T-junction bit and turns a nice shade of green and is near impossible to clean as you can't get anything in it to remove the grime.

It is not possible to replace the T-sections and we are going to have it all cut out and replaced - which will then leave a very small gap all around. Then we have to steam clean the bottom of the glass panels and then get it all sealed again.

Luckily I have found a nice plumber who is up for a challenge.

We have a 900 x900 quadrant shower and I'm really pleased we opted for this over smaller square shower. Quadrant feels quite spacious inside. Can you see it in a showroom and step inside the shower? I agree that square looks nicer, and think quadrant looks small from the outside actually, but inside it feels big IMHO.

I'd go for quadrant.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 23/06/2013 09:36

Why can't you fit the 900x900 square shower in?

If you really can't, I'd go for the 900 quadrant. 800 square is tiny.

The slidey doors on my curved one are shite and keep coming off their rails. And are a pain in the Arse to clean.

We're opting for a 900x900 quadrant in our new bathroom. IMO they make rooms seem larger.
I'd also spend as much as you possibly can on a decent enclosure and tray, Maybe consider frameless if you're worried about it looking naff?
We're opting for a showerlux enclosure and coram tray.

Years ago h opted for the curved screen which I didn't like it, so on a recent bathroom refit I choose a square shape, much happier as I think curved looks a bit naff.

We also got a shower screen that had special glass which repels the water which really works so reduces cleaning.
The shower is used so often so durability/quality is important.

Thanks so much for advice. Back to showroom to stand in a quadrant!

Quadrant for space / square for ease of cleaning.

noddyholder · 23/06/2013 16:49

We have an 800 square and its fine. The quadrant ones are a bit naff like corner baths

Crumblemum · 23/06/2013 19:26

Ha ha noddyholder this job is seeing us say goodbye to the corner bath (although I have to say it was installed by the previous owner)!

Stood in a quadrant, the sales guy said a 900x900 is bigger than 800x800 square, so going for the quandrant. Agree they can look a little, oh I don't know, maybe showy, but think on balance I want the most possible room.

Now to find the nicest non-naff quandrant for not too much money!

Naff is an 800x800 when you keep banging your bloody elbows. 900x900 quadrant isn't naff.

Now to find the nicest non-naff quandrant for not too much money! Let us know what you end up choosing. I'm still undecided!!

I have this one which I'm pleased with and don't think it looks naff (I hope not anyway!). I agree with chipping, if it gives you more space, its worth it.

fussychica · 25/06/2013 15:03

lightrain that doesn't look naff to me.

lightrain · 25/06/2013 18:57

Thanks fussy!
