Front Door Dark Paint Colours

Hello,

have had a search for advise but can't really see any...
we're repainting (our fairly recently painted ) front door... it is currently a dark dulux weathershield colour - which i hoped would look like a rich not quite black colour but instead looked rather bluey dark grey -and not like an undercoat!!

I'd like to stick with a dark colour... any thoughts? something that looks rich, and in a more matt-like finish...

TIA...

Have you looked at F&B railings? It's an off black very lovely.

If you don't like F&B because its water based rather than oil you can get a little Greene oil paint in very similar colour

thank you - thought about f&b railings but was told it doesn't wear well... dunno. so opted for a dulux weathershield paint but given what that looked like after 6 months...
but it may have to do with how it was applied (by tradesmen) - in a hurry in wet freezing cold, over white undercoat.
does the undercoat make a big difference to the colour?

Undercoat makes all the difference to the colour and overall finish. That's why they sell it in so many different colours.

ah & aarrgh -that's SO frustrating. I remember being abit Hmm about it when i was repeatedly assured it doesn't really matter... !

a bit worried now too because just saw a comment on another thread that it's not a good idea to paint very dark colours on front doors facing sun... our door is basically in the sun all afternoon... [mind you, i say 'sun' but...]
