Are they naff?

I think so, yes. And they belong in an (old fashioned) office.

Are there any that aren't naff? Sad

Grin Perhaps not, though it does sound cool.

We have a French window which is near the tv so curtains when pulled back obscure it.

What to do if vertical blinds are naff?

MrsBucketxx · 18/06/2013 21:37

plantation shutters?

yup naff, please dont.

AgathaF · 18/06/2013 21:46

Roman blinds, venetians?

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 18/06/2013 21:49

Worried that roman blinds will have a big "gather" at the top which means that people will have to duck their heads to go in and out.

Are venetians cool or naff?

I've google image-d vertical blinds and on reflection I don't think I could inflict them on myself

Shutters could work if they were outside...

OP posts:
MrsBucketxx · 18/06/2013 21:52

outside why? I have them across my kichen patio doors, and i can open them completely or closed etc. if you had small slatts this wouldn't obscure anything.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 18/06/2013 21:55

Venetians over verticals any day of the week - unless you are going for the 90's office look Grin

A friend had some very expensive ones made (for the same reason as you), she thought/hoped/prayed that going very 'high end' would make them look good - dreadful fail... and you can't even use the 'fabric' for anything else. They ended up not putting anything up - which was my suggestion in the first place Grin

evertonmint · 18/06/2013 21:56

My parents love verticals and have them at every window. Their home looks like an office. They are bloody awful.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 18/06/2013 21:59

Outside because we have no wall to fold them back against inside. On the immediate right is the TV and on the left is a short wall with a picture and a sofa up against it. Hence we can't have curtains.

Chipping - does she still have them? Can I buy them off her? Grin

Could you put roman blinds above the window alcove height, so that the gathered top bit was above the window, but just coming down to cover it so not obvious? So it might make your window look taller but you shouldn't have to duck to get underneath them.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 18/06/2013 23:30

Unexpected she would have gladly given them to you - they saw the bottom of a skip about 5 years ago though (about 2 months after they were bought - 7 weeks longer than she would have kept them but her DH was a bit pissy about it! In fact, they were up for less time than they were on order. I can sort of understand his POV, but they are godawful as she had been told by me & everyone else before she ordered them!), sorry!!

You have been warned Grin
