Ceiling height of an integral garage?

Hello,

I'm trying to gauge how low we can make the ceiling in our garage, that is soon to become integrated as part of an extension. The lower the ceiling the better the room above will be.
I've googled and can't seem to find any guidance online.
If you've an integral garage could you do me a massive favour and measure floor to ceiling height please.

Thank you so much!

I don't have an integral garage, but here are some thoughts for you.

You need 6' minimum just to stand up, and I'm pretty sure most overhead doors need about 1' space. Also, in this neck of the woods the ceiling of an integral garage has to be specially constructed to be fireproof and fume-proof.

So, you are not going to get away with allowing less than 8', including the garage ceiling. About 2.4 meters for you metric types.

Ah, just looked it up in the Ontario Building Code. "The clear height in a storage garage shall be not less than 2 000 mm." By a "storage" garage they mean a place for storing your car, as opposed to a car repair facility.

I presume "clear height" means below the overhead door. I don't think UK regulations will be much different in principle, at least in regard to height.

We have an integral garage in a house build approx 1997. The height from floor to ceiling is 245cm. Visually the ceiling looks a few cm lower than the rest of the downstairs ceilings, but then the garage floor is also approx 20cm lower than the rest of the house as its obviously the same level as the outside.

Thereinmadness thank you, and is that height adequate? Or do you wish it was higher? Don't want to reduce it so much it isn't workable as a garage.

The height is fine for us, DH does lots of DIY stuff in the garage and its fine.

Have you allowed for lots of insulation in the ceiling? Rooms over garages can be quite cold.

Great, just checked the plans and that's the height the architect has specified. Yes, they have, it was one of the things I highlighted, I hate the cold!
Thank you for your help.
