Decorating Quote

Hello

I have had a quote for painting and decorating house (internally).
This is for all walls, ceiling, woodwork, doors etc.

Its a 3 Bed House w/ 1 x Bathroom and the standard box room.
2 rooms (Kitchen and Bathroom) will be woodwork and ceilings only as they are tiled).

Quote has come out at 2200.00 but we will be providing the top coat for the walls.

I feel this is quite steep bearing in mind there is no mention of undercoating any of the walls/ceilings etc, except for the woodwork.
And in some rooms we have flakey paint, so had assumed they would be undercoated before repainting over.

I am in the process of getting other quotes, but wondered if this is a fair ballpark figure bearing in mind we will be providing Dulux Top Coat.

NB: Whole house is painted only. We did this ourselves 4+ years ago and did the undercoat/top coat etc (so do you put undercoat on old paint, before repainting again?)

We are located in the South East (not London)/

Thanks

I don't think that steep at all. We paid that for our hallway and it took the guy a good 3 weeks which I would say is at least what it would take to paint a whole house.

Bloody hell Madame, how big is your hallway Grin?

Madamecastafiore · 14/06/2013 12:43

Big but he was a perfectionist.

We baulked about 9k for patio recently but after checking out other quotes realised was reasonable for size and materials.

People are very unaware of how much time, prep and hours DIY or not as the case may be actually takes.

Watching with interest as I will be needing top to bottom redecoration in my new property.

Seems like a fair quote to me, I'm in the SW - do you know anything about how long the work will take?

I had the same reaction to a quote of nearly 1700 for doing woodwork, ceilings and windows in a small 2 bed flat!

Winceywoo · 15/06/2013 11:55

I would ask him how long job will take. I would expect to pay £200 a day in your area.

We've had another quote and quoted approx. 300 per room. 600 for the hallway/landing.

This appears to be labour only though...arhhh!!!

I keep looking at my walls going I can do and then realise its probably harder than I think.

I don't mind paying so long as I don't find faults afterwards!!!

Im seven months pregnant so maybe should just suck it up and get on with it.

In terms of time we have been advised 10 days...
