How long between exchange

And completion?

We have just been sent contract to check and sign for the house we are buying. Have already signed and sent back for our house sale.

I really want to move at end of July to fit in with end of term. Is this reasonable request? Or do you think everyone will be gagging to move. We are in the middle of a chain of six if that helps.

I am a novice...

Let your solicitor or estate agent know when you want to complete. It can be anything. Average is four weeks I think between exchange and completion.

With such a large chain it will be difficult to get exactly the date you want as everyone will have different ideas, but hopefully you will come to a good compromise.

I used to be an Estate Agent - the usual time between was 2 weeks to allow everyone time to pack, although sometimes just a week would be agreed. As you said most people are keen to get moving once exchange has happened. If you mention it as soon as possible you may well find that your agent can get the rest of the chain to agree to your chosen dates.
Remember that exchange of contracts is when you all make a legal commitment to purchase so once this is done you can all feel pretty secure in the transaction - your agent should emphasise this to your buyers and vendor when negotiating the dates for you.

Good luck Smile
