Bloody boiler again!

Another boiler issue...

We appear to have no ch or hw...but the pilot light is on? It's an ancient glow worm spacesaver mkII (not combi so we have hot water tank and immersion tank (same thing?))

Have asked ll but she's asking whether the gas is igniting and whether there's an immersion??

Help! I know it's June but our Victorian terrace is always cold, and we need hw!

If you have a hot water tank then you'll probably have an immersion heater that will provide hot water until the boiler is fixed. Look on the top of the tank. Is there a power cable running to a round fitting? If there is, that's the immersion heater. Find the switch (probably in the airing cupboard) and switch it on.

do you have a thermostat and a timer?

Tank is in ds room and he's asleep, but will look tomorrow, thanks. We can't get hot water without the boiler/heating being on - I don't know if that will make a difference to your suggestion?

No thermostat but there is a timer. Tried switching it on and off but nothing.

No immersion... LL on the case and hopefully will be fixed soon - we smell and it's not exactly summery weather here!

when sorted, ask the landlord to fit an immersion if possible. It usually costs more to heat the water this way but it gives you a backup. This means that while she fixes things, you aren't without hot water.
