FFS now it turns out my house is built near the entrance to a mine shaft

AAAARRRRGH.

Sale of my house almost sorted after having to agree to an indemnity policy as the house was built over a sewer 110 years ago.

Now it transpires that the house is 20m from the entrance to a mine shaft and the mortgage company won't lend. I live in dense back to back terraced housing and houses round here sell all the time - next door sold 6 months ago with no bother.

The buyer is appealing but if that fails he'll look for another mortgage company rather than pull out. Estate Agent says the mortgage cos rarely bother about the mines, just our bloody luck....

Poor you! At least you have a reasonable buyer...

I know - the EA says he is quite level headed. He's a landlord so he'll understand; all the houses round here are built on old mines, all built at the turn of the century.

My blood ran cold when the EA said the mortgage company wouldn't lend though. I just hope he finds another one with no trouble.
