I live in the centre of my city and it's just not affordable any more. It means a 25 mile round trip to work every day, and also I'm just not a city person.

I've just viewed the cottage of my dreams. It's on the Durham/Northumberland border and next to a farm. It's three miles from my work and just....stunning. I met the farmer who owns it and he seemed great.

Got to apply on Monday (non refundable £50!) please, please cross your fingers for me! It is my actual dream home...

Is it to buy or rent? Sounds very exciting. Is it on the farm? Does the farm have animals? I'd enjoy living near animals.

To rent. I'm stuggling financially where I am now so the lack of petrol combined with payrise in sept, combined with the fact the owner pays water/sewage...means I would be a lot better off.

The farm has lots of animals - cows and horses mostly I think. The air definitely had that reassuring smell of cow shit It would be lovely living near animals, wouldn't it? As opposed to the students I live near now who think the pavement outside my house is a good vomit receptacle!!
