Best product for glossing new skirtings?

Normally always keep our wood natural but this time going all white to keep things looking bright.

Any recommendations for the best gloss? They ate brand new so I know I will need an undercoat - and i did read an earlier thread but a rubbish dulux one so think O should avoid that.

My only concern is that it will come out too shiny. We did dd's woodwork but we just painted over what was there which i think is why it looks just awful!

As these are new I dont want to cock them up - would like a clean matt finish if thats possible,

Any ideas gratefully received x

If you're painting bare wood, you need to sand it, then wipe it over with white spirit to remove all the dust and any grease. Then paint it with primer and two coats of undercoat (or use 'primer + undercoat' for two or three coats). Then one or two coats of eggshell.

That all seems like a lot of coats, but you'll get a much better (and more hard wearing) finish by doing several thin coats than by slapping it on thickly.

Even eggshell will dry slightly shiney, but it will fade to matt over about a month.
