What is a 'Home for life plan'?

I've seen a few family sized houses in my area offered at low prices to the over 60's with the 'home for life plan'
Can't understand why those over 60 would be looking to buy a 4/5 bedroom house and why they would need a hugely discounted price.

These houses are also available to those without a plan for the normal, much higher price.

Anyone know what all this is about?

Sounds like a rental or lease back scheme . Presumably the property "value" wouldn't be taken into account for IHT or nursing home purposes.
