I feel sick - we should exchange on Tuesday

We're buying our first house and should exchange on Tuesday and complete on Friday (fingers crossed).

The enormity of it has just hit me, having a mortgage, higher monthly out goings and holy crap a house!!! Since when did I get this old and responsible? Why the hell are the bank lending money to kids like us (ok we're mid 30's but I still feel 19!)

Any wisdom to share?

Can you afford it? Of the answer is yes than thank your lucky stars you're buying a house Grin

Dh and I have had a mortgage since I was 21 and he was 22. We're still sane and solvent(ish) Grin

Ooooooh op I feel your anxiety... We're aiming to exchange on Tuesday to complete on Friday too!

Trying hard not to think about it all and swing between anxiety and excitement.... We were meant to exchange in Friday, but due to our useless solicitor this didn't happen... So I'm more anxious as Tuesday is last possible day for exchange as bank needs certain number of days to release funds!

Have you packed? What are you doing to keep busy stop yourself from going mental ?

Mum2Fergus · 26/05/2013 09:51

Ooh, how exciting! I bought my first house in Feb, at the ripe old age of 44 lol and still felt exactly the same as you do! Trust me, once you get in and start feathering your nest it will pass Grin good luck and congrstulations!!

OrchidFlakes · 26/05/2013 09:57

We're in the same boat hissy it's exchange Tuesday or wait another week. We are in rented so as soon as we hit June 1 it gets complicated with rent.

We are 80% packed but by bedtime tonight I want all except clothes boxed (a bit ambitious!)

It's so scary 'spending' all our savings!

I remember that feeling! I had nightmares before I moved into my first flat, all that responsibility and debt!

by the time I bought my second property I was way more chilled about it.

owning a home is great, enjoy it!

HissyCat · 26/05/2013 10:12

Snap Orchid renting here too, and will heve to pay another months rent if we go to one day over...

It is scary spending savings. I keep getting flutters of excitement as I really, really love the house we're buying and go from fear of the huge amount of money we will owe... To palpable excitement and just want to get in and clean (yes, I am strange) and decorate and jump around every room, not quite believing its ours

DENMAN03 · 26/05/2013 19:42

Well done! Try not to worry and just enjoy the moment. I bought my first flat when I was 21 and still have never forgottent how it felt to pick up the keys!

Notyetthere · 26/05/2013 20:00

We complete on the 7th June. I desired to buy my own home for a long time and now we are so close to completing, I feel like a small part of the house is mine and the rest belongs to the bank until I pay back their money.Shock

However, I have just been scrubbing walls and skirting boards in our rental flat that I look forward to not worrying about what the LL feels.

AKissIsNotAContract · 26/05/2013 20:02

I felt like a proper grown up the first time I mowed the lawn of my new house.

Notyetthere · 26/05/2013 20:10

AKiss I can't wait to sit on a chair on our patio watching DH mow the lawn while I sip on a rum-ginger beerGrin

Notyetthere · 26/05/2013 20:11

Telling him he has missed a bit! Smile

Mum2Fergus · 28/05/2013 21:11

How did all the exchanges go today?!

OrchidFlakes · 28/05/2013 22:02

Eugh. No exchange here which means we aren't moving on Friday. Grrrr. Hoping to exchange tomorrow and move in Monday.

I'll be greyer by the end of all this!

HissyCat · 28/05/2013 22:23

Same here!!! Hoping to exchange tomorrow now, still aiming to complete Friday.... But not too hopeful... Bloody stressful.

OrchidFlakes · 29/05/2013 10:31

Hissy we should form a support group! Grin

We want to complete Friday but the vendor now can't do that's day grrr so we are wasting a weekend of new house loveliness Angry

Why is this whole process so hard??!! Just had call from sellers and there's still 2 outstanding issues on the house she's buying... Their solicitors are trying to work through them, but talk has come up about exchanging and completing on the same day!!! I've only got 3 hairs left!!!

Highly stressed, have a terrible migraine- will not be doing this again for yeeeeaaars.

And yes, I know what you mean about wasting the weekend. If it happens on Monday I can only enjoy it the one day before its back to work. Sad

OrchidFlakes · 29/05/2013 11:58

You poor thing. I'm really lucky thre is no chain as our sellers are heading into rented.

We talked about exchanging and completing the same day but I just can't handle it - how do you book movers when you don't know when it is? Also, why are solicitors so slow?!

I need Wine and its only just noon!
