Have you ever bought a house that you found by putting letter/leaflet through door?

Really frustrated with lack of decent properties on market in my area. Thinking of putting letters through doors next week as really wanted to move in time for dd starting reception in Sept. We are in rented with nothing to sell. Looking for hints/advice from those who have done this!

Delivered 100+ letters today. Already had a call from someone about their neighbours house which I'd already viewed! Fingers crossed. It's v hard to know if they are in price range from just the outside appearance!

good luck BellaI I was at a kids party yesterday and someone told me they bought their house by doing this. They wanted to stay in their road so did a leaflet drop. Turns out one house was empty due to the old guy dying. The kids couldn't bear the though of selling the house but when someone came along it jolted them into action.
It needs modernising but they got it for a good price so are more than happy.

Had one email saying they want to sell but can't until March next year. Fingers crossed something else comes up available sooner. Feels like a gamble to have to wait!

By coincidence someone put a letter through my door about a month before I was going to put my house up for sale.

The letter was handwritten with a drawing on the front by their children. This personal touch worked on me! and I e-mailed for them to come and look round. Turned out to be DS's teacher!

In the end my house was too expensive but I think a personal touch makes a difference in the initial letter. They put down why they wanted to live in my house, etc.

Good luck

The house was amazing! Beautiful massive garden, lovely period features. But they haven't found anything and their Estate agent valuation over £50k over our budget :(

We didn't leaflet but we did put an advert in the local newspaper when we bought out first house after getting married. We just said we were looking for a 4 bed house, preferably period and an approx. price.

We were approached by someone we sort of already knew ( he owned the local garage where we took our car to be fixed) He had his eye on a house that was coming up for auction but need to be able to sell the house he had just renovated. The transaction worked well as we could trust each other so he bought his new house at auction and we honoured our word to buy his once the deal was set up. It was a lovely house and we were very happy there, until I decided I needed a horse and a paddock to put it in a few years later.

Good luck Bella keep us posted!

It was too small and extending wouldn't have added enough to value or overall size to be worthwhile. The search continues...

Have put an offer in on one that came up this week. Fingers crossed they will let us have it now before Agent gets it!
