Aargh! The ceiling is glossed!

We're doing up the (1980s) house room by room and have got to the ensuite. The ceiling is finished in a stippled artex-type stuff. And we've just noticed it's been gloss painted.

Is there such a thing as a coating we can use as a base for a normal bathroom emulsion? Or should we just be looking for a plasterer?

We don't want a glossed ceiling BTW....

Must have been an 80's phase. We've just brought a house and they've glossed the coving.

I was planning to sugar soap then just emulsion over it.

We're skimming ours but then we don't want the texture either
