Barking Mad ?

Hi,
Have found a lovely house here, not getting cold feet as such but just wanted to ask for opinions good and bad on the area generally...
Have lived all over London, moving from NE. It appears to have good transport links, big parks and a theatre too.

We meet with vendor soon, would appreciate any input from you guys!
Thanks

just a minor point, at least on mobile there's no link to an area. I'm probably little help otherwise as I don't live in London....

AuraofDora · 15/05/2013 21:34

I'm kinda looking for first hand experiences of area, vibe, friendliness etc Camwombat but thanks anyhow!

RandomMess · 15/05/2013 21:45

Lulabellarama · 15/05/2013 21:45

I assume, Barking

pooka · 15/05/2013 21:45

BArking?

Selbytobe · 15/05/2013 21:50

Oh I see. I thought it was barking mad to live in x

Too clever for me.

Camwombat · 15/05/2013 21:54

Selby, I'm glad I'm not the only one. it's clearly been a long day.... up at 4.30 the toad and not asleep yet

AuraofDora · 15/05/2013 21:57

Oh bloody hell, sorry, yes it's Barking, London Borough of.. Though is it technically Essex, I dunno know

It's not somewhere I really know, priced out of our present location and would love a garden, I can afford it here I just want to know bit more about the place, if anyone can help...

Crikey come back

OP posts:
Selbytobe · 15/05/2013 22:09

Alas I know nothing of barking. Although I am now wondering if barking mad relates to the place or the dog noise...

AuraofDora · 15/05/2013 22:15

Thanks Selbytobe probably a bit of both! To be honest I was expecting it to be horro but it wasn't, inner city gritty yes but that I can live with

Been reading about the plans to re do the town centre and liked the abbey and the parks, our house would be fairly near transport but very quiet street almost too quiet, i dunno?

Confused, you betcha!

Fedupofdiets · 16/05/2013 16:32

Clearly not....

mistlethrush · 16/05/2013 16:34

Can I suggest you start again with the title "Property in Barking - good or bad idea?" or something similar - as this title doesn't encourage anyone in Barking to look at it.... It sounds as though you think that you think you're mad to consider a certain property....

GemmaTeller · 16/05/2013 16:39

My DH comes from Barking and he would never move back there

justpoppy · 16/05/2013 16:46

I've recently moved out of Barking. Was born there 40 years ago. You're right - transport links are fantastic, the park is nice (not as nice as it used to be) and the theatre is good too. It is however very very run down. I wouldn't feel safe walking after dark and felt the schools weren't right for my ds. I now live further out in Essex and love it.

AuraofDora · 16/05/2013 19:37

Just poppy thanks was worried because we could afford a nice place! We want ds to finish at his primary and liked the look of Robert clack secondary school . . .
Oh crikey am really worried now

Everyone I knew who grew up in Barking refuses to live there. It's reputed to be v v rough. They had BNP councillers for a bit which tells you something about a place.

AuraofDora · 16/05/2013 20:18

There seems to be two sides to it though... Was worried about this side of things, have lived in more mixed places and like a chilled out feel.
I don't think there are any BNP councillors now, and lots of rural places will now have ukip representatives but the would stil be attractive aspects to the area...
