Painting metal garage doors

We have a metal up and over garage door, at some point was dark blue and has been painted white. The white is now flaking off around the edges leaving very attractive patches of blue. How do I sort it? I'm guessing some sort of sanding then painting but have no idea re the details eg what sandpaper or paint to use..

I'd be very grateful for some tips - am rather scared I'm going to really fuck it up. Grin Thank you!

Definitely sand it until there are no bumps and lumps. You may need an electric sander for that size of area.

Then use metal primer and a paint for metal. If you have a wander round Homebase or somewhere you will find the right stuff in the "specialist paints" section.

Be careful what colour you paint it too. Glossy Black is smart but shows flaws easily and will be more likely to bubble and crack in the sun. (I really regret our black front door which looked beautiful for a dew months before the summer came, heat expansion means we have to constantly touch it up)

Thanks Wonky...think I'll just do another couple of coats of white...not very imaginative!
