Minehead - What's it like?

We live 'up north' but had a lovely holiday in Minehead. We're looking to move and out of curiosity looked at Minehead. The prices surprised us and I'm just wondering if there's a reason they are low?

I live about an hour away and am not that keen. It's OK though.

Very friendly town. Prices are higher there than other nearby towns. It's not a bad place to live at all. Jobs are pretty few.

Thanks for your replies. Just quite surprised that any where in the sunny south compares price wise!

it does rain a bit. It will be warmer.

Jobs are a big problem. Travelling to other parts of the UK is quite a long journey.

If you have not lived by the sea before, you will find it can be quite rough especially in winter, and the salt spray will make your car, lawnmower etc go rusty very fast.

Sunny South is popular for people to move to when they retire, bear in mind that you will need good access to shops, doctor, hospital etc as you get older and may not drive so much.

Not considered sea salt. Better mention that to dh. Not quite ready to retire yet but would like a more outdoorsy life for the dcs.

Hi, we're thinking of moving to Minehead, I have a 6 year old, could anyone tell me what the schools are like and which are the best ones? And also which areas are the best, we've looked at a few houses on line, and will hopefully be visiting the area again soon, :-)
