Anyone got a woodburner fan? Does it work?

I've been thinking of buying a heated activated fan that stands on the woodburner.

My woodburner is set into the fireplace a bit and I wondered if a fan would help throw out the heat into the room. (Didn't think I'd be still lighting a fire every night as we are almost into May!)

I was looking at this one

But there's another at twice the price and I wondered if it worked any better here

Any one have any experience of fans in general or these in particular?

I've got the Ecofan in your second link and I really think it works, we often leave the door to upstairs open to send the heat up there as it seems to be so efficient.
It is important to check you have enough height to position the fan correctly on the wood burner for it to work properly.

I bought mine from my local wood burner supplier and they said they would take it back if I found it wasn't distributing the heat effectively - needless to say I've still got it Smile.

Thanks Elliptic5. Think I'll indulge in one of these some time before now and the autumn. Smile

I have an eco-fan that looks just like the first one and it does f-all other than being a useful reminder to the kids (10 and 13) that, yes, the stove is hot now, so don't touch it! Grin

We do have an electric fan mounted behind the woodstove (ours isn't set into a fireplace - it's freestanding) and that makes a huge difference, heat distribution wise.

Ah that's interesting lazydog. May be it's a case of getting what you pay for with these then. Will be saving my pennies!

Probably is, although mine is an "original" EcoFan, not a knock-off, and it wasn't all that cheap (~$130, iirc) but it was probably their first-pass design and now they've had chance to improve efficiency and cut costs :)

We've got one and the husband thinks its ace. I'm not 100% sure it does much as we bought it soon after our stove so I can't remember before! Ours is like the first one.

We have the second fan and certainly have noticed the difference. It seems to push the warmth into all corners of the room, well worth the money :)

I know this thread is a few years old, but I just wanted to say we have a stove fan. We bought it last winter and think its great, it kept all the room nice and toasty, after seeing Elliptic5’s comments I’m going to try leaving the door to the upstairs open now! I got mine from here stovefanreviews.com/product/valiant-ventum-iii-stove-fan/ They were really helpful with the questions I had when I was deciding which was the best for me.
