Norbury

Anyone know it and can share what it's like? Our corner of SE London has, we fear, got too expensive for us to 'second step'. We're in a two bed flat with two children, two cats (and a goldfish). We love living where we are and would rather stay than move to a new area we didn't like just for more space-this weekend's recce is Norbury; what's it like to live there? 3 bed house prices look to be in our range and there seems to be some decent schools but thoughts very gratefully welcomed!

We are in exactly the same position - been in Streatham for 9 years but totally outgrown our 2 bed flat. We were checking out Norbury as it's just down the road and a bloke threatened his girlfriend with a knife in the park and we dialled 999. Wouldn't fancy hanging out there on my own with the kids. No idea where we'll end up. Exploring loft conversions...

I know this is an old thread but personally I think Norbury is a horrible, depressing place.

Our cat minder lives there and she is always moaning about how run down the place is now,a nd how she wishes she could afford to move.

When we go to IKEA in Croydon or Purley Way, I'm always glad to get out of Norbury as we have to drive through it back to West Norwood.

We are on the other side of London Road, and I rarely visit 'the other Norbury' (behind London road heading towards SE London). In fact I didn't know that part was Norbury until MN, I actually thought it was Norwood (was very new to London when we bought in the area Smile)

So when I read how horrible Norbury is I can't reconcile it with where we live. We have a lovely house, in a nice quiet road with the absolute best neighbours! The high street is full of family friendly shops that are constantly giving DD lolly pops etc that I her fav thing to do on the weekend is go to the shops.

But if I'm honest, I find a lot of areas in London depressing shit holes, no matter what the houses are going for. It's an old city trying to be modern with cars, buses etc whizzing by on side streets that aren't really meant for it, no freaking bins (the rubbish in this city does my head in!), fly tipping, dog shit (I work in West London, in an affluent area and it's worst there!).

Sorry that doesnt really make it clear which part of Norbury I mean, but we live near Standford Road.
