Questions to ask a prospective lodger

Hello all,
I've just had someone enquiring about my vacant room and have agreed to meet them tomorrow evening. I've got a few things I obviously want to know about them, but could any landlords (or people more knowledgable than me) suggest particular things I should ask, aside from the obvious?
He sounded a nice chap but would have his little girl staying here for the weekend, which I'm not sure about.
Any advice would be appreciated!

I ask:

Do you smoke?
Play any musical instruments?
Keep unusual hours?
Have friends/partners who would ever stay over?
Are they local and have friends in the area-people who don't can be a bit needy...
Where do they work?
Referees?

And make sure proposed cooking/eating/tidiness and use of communal areas discussed so expectations can be managed.

HTH

That is exactly what I was looking for, mahls, thanks for the advice!

Oh and if you offer them broadband check how much they're likely to use as it can be frustrating if they hog it....

And our lodger's room is en suite but with a previous place we all shared the same bathroom so good to know if they are planning to shower daily at your normal time!
