2 coats of primer and 1 gloss it 1 primer and 2 gloss

I am painting my wooden stair banister. I have done 1 cost of white primer and it is looking like it will need 3 coats.

I find gloss hard to paint with, would it look ok to do another cost of undercoat and then just one cost of gloss?

Yes, I think it will be fine. We had some cupboards made recently (just mdf) and the carpenter recommended two coats of primer and two coats of gloss ideally but we found it looked fine after one coat of gloss and two of primer.

If you do two coats of primer you can always do another coat of gloss if you need to but if you only do one and end up having to do three coats of gloss it will be a pain what with the smell and drying time!

ok thanks.

We did this and it looked fab when it was finished.

We did 1 primer and 2 egg shell but I'm sure 2 primer and 1 gloss would be fine. It was hard preventing drip lines when painting the spindles so just make sure you keep going back and checking what you've just painted.
