Stain/mark on solid oak dining table - any ideas on how to remove it?

I have a lovely dining table which has a mark/stain on it, due to clumsy me knocking nail polish on it. I tried to use nail polish remover to get rid of that, but that didn't work either. I then tried multi purpose cleaner to get rid of it all, but no luck.

The table has a shiny mark in the middle wih dull marks surrounding it. Short of just buying a tablecloth, how can I get rid of this stain? Any ideas well appreciated.

how many people does it take to carry it across the room?

is it polished, varnished or waxed?

I have had great success with - yuk - fag ash. For watermarks and heat stains from hot cups.
Try it and if it doesn't work you can just wipe off and try something else.

It is solid oak, we've only had it about 2 years old, bought from Oak furniture land.

Modern table, flat on the top, no intricate wood carvings or anything.

We think it has a wax kind of finish on it, and takes 2 people to carry it across the room.

As it is solid oak, not veneered, and substantial, sanding the top would be best.

Wood dust is very fine and persistent and can be an irritant so carry it outdoors and do not bring back until all dust has been removed with vac and damp sponge.

Use medium fine to remove the mark then fine to re-smooth the surface. You may want to use Colron to restore the colour, then you can wax or use a satin varnish like Ronseal diamond. Only ever sand back and forth along the grain and never in circles. You could get a poor quality orbital sander for £20 or so in Lidl, the guarantee will last longer than this job.

Finish off sanding by hand with a cork block.
