Thinking of moving to north Oxfordshire

Any recommendations? No reason to more other than we aren't settled where we currently live and we have loved visiting the area around Bicester. Have 2 children in primary school and a commute to London to contend with so there's a lot at play if we regret moving!

Woodstock is lovely but the secondary school is very average.

St Bartholomew's secondary school in Eynsham is fab.

Not sure about the commute for either towns.

Villages around Banbury. I lived in Great Bourton just north. Beautiful and lots of families. Cropredy is the most popular and has a great community, canal and lovely primary school. Wroxton. Warmington. And many many more. So picturesque. Excellent motorway link (right on M40 junction) and train to Marylebone not bad. I'm amazed at what you can get for your money there (compared to Surrey). Thinking of moving back myself! Most of the village schools are pretty good I think, but check Ofsteds. Banbury is a great centre, property is cheaper than the villages, it has everything you need and a great market.

Deddington and Adderbury and Bloxham to the south of Banbury, and slightly more expensive.

Chipping Norton worth a look too.

What is your budget like?

Deddington, Adderbury and Bloxham all lovely too, I meant!

Let me know how you get on!

Bicester is pleasant but boring! Lived there two years, nice enough but nothing there really. Try into Bedfordshire - Leighton buzzard is a nice town with more going on, prettier countryside than round Bicester, better schools, and some really lovely villages around. Plus the commute to London is much easier by train than from Bicester!

CocoNutter · 02/04/2013 13:09

Sorry...no offence to any Bicester inhabitants intended!!

CocoNutter · 02/04/2013 13:10

Forget to mention much cheaper houses too. Where are you moving from?

littlebearsmummy · 02/04/2013 20:13

Moving from east herts with a budget around 450k. Really only looking to move because we levee the countryside around Woodstock but still need a good commute into London. Hadn't thought of Leighton buzzard so will head straight to rightmove to see what we can get for our pennies!!

Try the villages - Whitchurch, Soulbury, Cublington, Ivinghoe all very pretty.

littlebearsmummy I know this is an old thread but wondered how you got on as we're having similar ideas. It's still too soon for us to actively house hunt but I do hear lovely things about north Oxfordshire and we're going to have a look later in the month hopefully.

I'm also considering Evesham which would be a longer commute but interested to compare.

I think we might be looking for a house just outside a village rather than in one as we love rural but that may change
