Help please!

Just moved house, and the last tenant was clearly more of a slob that me :) I've done as much as I can to try and clean everywhere, but just got a few other questions if anyone can please help?

The taps have a buildup of something (I assume limescale?) around the bit the water comes out of. I've tried a few squirts of cillit bang, and a lot of elbow grease and its not getting rid of it. What should I try?

The radiator in the lounge has a burn mark on it can I just paint the radiator with gloss, or is there a better solution?

House is always freezing (no double glazing). Do the stick-on double glazing sheets work? The front and back door are very draughty, any suggestions for the door frames or anything?

I'm rubbish with storage solutions so the house is a mess with boxes in some rooms still, but trying to at least make a few rooms feel clean and inviting, it's just not working! Can't afford to decorate at the moment, any tips for making it look more homely?

Vinegar should work on the taps. Or viakal.

I would buy specialist radiator paint from any DIY store.

Taps - yes, it will be limescale, you can try vinegar or lemon juice to help loosen it, then a knife to chip it off. Fixing half a lemon on the end of the tap with an elastic band is a good way of holding the acid where you need it, or smearing tomato ketchup over it, but don't leave it for more than an hour, and always rinse the acid off well, as it can corrode the metal fittings if left.

There are lots of paints available for radiators. Best to get a non drip type and turn it off until paint is dry. If the burn has gone through the coating to the metal, you will need to 'sand' it down smooth and use some primer (the type for metal) first .

You can get draught exclusion strips of fuzzy/spongy stuff to stick around doors which is worth doing. Never had any success with alternatives to double glazing, but the secondary frames that slide across are better than anything you stick on.

Under bed storage and suitcases on top 9f wardrobes are best ways I have found to keep things tidy, great to store out-grown clothes until a run to thrift store; also, have a good declutter now and don't unpack things you don't need. If you manage without things in the boxes for a year, get rid of it; you don't need it!

Soak wet wipes with vinegar and wrap them around the taps. Works really well.

Another one for vinegar - soak cotton wool in it and wrap around taps, covering with cling film. Works better than any fancy cleaner!

As for storage, I've got a load of boxes from Ikea - can't remember what they're called but they're covered in fabric and come in black, white or purple, and are about £2.50 each. I use them for storing all sorts and they look quite nice.
