Windows, why now?

We are just about to rent our house out. In the last month condensation has begun to form in between the panes on 70% of our double glazed window. I have looked it up and it is apparently the seal and the glass will need replacing. This is going to cost us a fortune. Why has this all happened at once?

Might it be cheaper to just replace the whole window?

Who has told you it will cost a fortune? It really won't, try a small local company rather than one of the big ones. DH has changed lots of sealed units for people and he is always the cheapest.

It's happened all at once because they are all equally old.

If you have been redecorating or steam cleaning, the house will have got more humid. This is also a cold spell which also contributes.

There is a company near us who fixes the seal - someone told me they charged about £100 per window - but lot cheaper than having to replace whole unit.

We just got a large windows unit replaced for £80. In South East. I thought we would have to replace the whole front so was very pleased with this.

there are people who drill a hole in the glass to clean the mist out, but I don't know anyone who has had it done. It looks like a fairly simple job when you have the equipment, I expect it will get franchised out to local people.

Yes my parents had this - they just replace that unit/part that has leaked I think & it wasn't expensive. local company did it
