How to plan layout if we had an extension

So very unlikely we will be able to move in the next couple of years so have been considering whether an extension would be a good idea. We have a two bed house as when we moved in we changed the third into an upstairs bathroom room.

Do how do we plan the upstairs? It would be an extension on the back rather than the side but dh and I have different ideas as too how it would work best. I know we would need proper plans if we decided to go ahead but I need to have an idea of how it would work in order to decide iyswim. Where is the best plan to get some ideas?

Have you tried looking at floor plans on right move of similar properties that have done extensions. And i suppose it depends on what space you want? Is it extra living space? Study? Bedroom. Why are you extending? What iis the wish list? What is essential? What is nice to have?

Would be looking at adding 2 bedrooms, but they would be behind so not sure if it would work. Would be happy with one bigger and one box for an office area/storage. Not sure if we would have to move existing walls around.

Will see if I can see anything on rightmove. Thanks

Have you considered getting an architect involved? It can potentially unlock the potentials of your house and realised your aspirations.

Also have a look at Architect in The House, a good cause to get free advise and a bit of charity.
