fortunately it is working at the moment, but it is over 30 years old (knew this when we bought the house last year) and the chap who services it says it is coming towards the end of its life. Time to start the research for a summer replacement, but any received wisdom would be most welcome and much appreciated.

A self-interested bump for you ss. Ours is 20 and going strong, but I suspect a new one could pay for itself quite quickly. Have heard good things about Grant, but, like you, would welcome advice.

An engineering friend has told us that the new oil boilers are sufficiently more efficient that its worth replacing an old one sooner rather than later. So we're also going to switch this summer.

Cant remember which one he recommended, though, but I'll get DH to check.

We replaced our leaking oil boiler last year, Envy of you both ours was only 11 years old. We have got a Grant condensing boiler which was recommended by our regular service guy, it appears to be more efficient than our old boiler but is noisier. We also have an ongoing problem with a banging noise which, we have been told, is a problem with the baffles (?) - we are currently waiting for Grant to provide a solution.
