Getting ready to put on the Market - can you help with a minor detail?

We Har a v small but lovely flat and every detail counts (given it's tiny size!). I have decluttered this weekend and painting chipped wood etc...

In our bedroom there is only a double bed, a wall of fitted cupboards and a tall shelving thing from ikea. I use it for my clutter (scarves, makeup, shoes etc) but obviously decluttered! Now what on earth do I put on it? I have filled two shelves with books, a basket on the bottom (empty), left my makeup on another... I was thinking a low floral arrangement for viewing days. What other decorative items can you think of that aren't clutter? And where would you buy them?

Appreciate your help!!!

Yes, flowers would be nice or another basket to match the one you have?

YOu coul get some of those letters that say Sleep or something. Try TKMAXX or HomeSense. They usally have them. I woul leave it in as long as you can squeeze past it because anyone who looks at the bedroom will be thinking 'where can I put my make up etc'

specialsubject · 12/03/2013 09:40

put the makeup away, no-one wants to see other people's slap. Put a couple of ornaments on the shelf, leave plenty of space.

I have to say I think those letters are really, really naff. Sorry.

Thanks everyone.

I will head to the shops and see what I can find.

I agree about the makeup but DH thinks makeup (and bicycle helmets!) look fine there. I shall convince him otherwise. Or just move them in to a cupboard!

Thanks everyone

definitely declutter and put as much out of sight as possible, including makeup; I'm looking for a house at the moment and if I saw your make up/ cycle helmet etc on display, I'd be thinking there is no/little storage space. If its a pretty perfume bottle, then yes display that, but not all your makeup.

Flowers are good, but bear in mind they have a limited display life, no one wants to see wilting/ dead flowers. Saw some the other day in a house with something mould like growing inside the vase- not a pretty sight! so you would need to regularly update flowers which can be costly, instead what about a flowering pot plant?

But declutter those shelves, and just put a couple of special items on them, it'll make it seem much more spacious!

Ok so I've decluttered! But really now have nothing on them (we took boxes of books away to my parents house and now need to fill the shelves gain....) o dear.

Pot plants, baskets... Need to go shopping!

If possible, get rid of the whole unit. No make up out. No cycle helmets. No letters. More floorspace.

wendybird77 · 12/03/2013 21:19

I agree, get rid. Better to have extra space!
