Floor mounted bath taps

We've just bought a second hand roll-top bath with no tap holes. Our intention was to buy a traditional/victorian style tap which mounts on the floor with tall chrome pipes like this, however I didn't realise how expensive these were to buy!! Does anyone know if should buy a tap without the tall pipes like this and ask a plumber to attach chrome pipes to the tap, or would this not work?

I think that would just wobble. Are you placing it near a wall, could you use a wall mounted valve ( taps) and spout type filler instead?
