We want to spice up the kitchen and replace the door.

Currently the doors are dark blue and the work tops and surfaces laminate pear wood, which isn't a common colour. It's a fairly pale wood but darker than maple.

One option is to put white or ivory doors on and leave the rest. The work top will need replacing in the next couple of years but at least it will lighten up a dark kitchen. Any other wood would look strange with pear wouldn't it?

I could also get rid of much of the pear wood, taking down the boxing above the units, kick boards and trim. There are pear end panels on the base units. The problem is the wall ones. They have pear laminate actually on the unit, so we would be left with 5 ends left exposed with pear. Is there anyway to smartly cover this without replacing the unit?

I'm thinking of taking the one above the sink down anyway and replacing it with Ikea style open shelves and racks for all the cups and glasses.
