We have agreed (and indeed DH has bought!) the orange paint, and have agreed that it will only be going on one wall in her large bedroom. We're thinking of painting the rest of the walls a light grey colour. Do you think this will work? Colours ... orange: www.diy.com/nav/decor/paint/interior-paint/red-purple-pink/emulsions/matt/B-and-Q-Funky-Colours-Matt-Fireburst-12648574?skuId=13169290 and grey: www.diy.com/nav/decor/paint/interior-paint/black-grey/emulsions/matt/Colours-Matt-Emulsion-Light-Rain-2-5L-10757591?skuId=11248297

Let's try the colours again!

no reason why not. Women often have strange tastes in colours. It will be good practice for when she has her own house.

Encourage her to wash down the walls first, apply plenty of dustsheets, wipe drips and spills off the paintwork before they dry, not to kick the paint over very often, do the edges first and fill in with a roller, apply several coats not one thick one; move the roller slowly to avoid excess splatter. Make sure she does her own prep and cleanup.

In time she may grow to love beige, taupe, and barley white.

You can easily paint over emulsion as long as it is not blobby, runny, or two thicj with brush marks.

I'd be thinking orange, pink and white would be pretty. Do I need my eyes testing?!

btw Matt does not adhere well to Silk unless the shine is taken off with vv fine paper after it has been washed down.

Thank you piglet john!

I'd go for orange and white rather than orange and grey myself, but I've seen some attractive orange and grey rooms on Pinterest so if it's big enough not to look dark then it should work.

Indeed PigletJohn. Orange is her thing at the moment, has been for a while, but I've told her that it's tough luck if she changes her mind as it'll be orange for a while to come! Unfortunately I'm the poor soul who has to do the painting although she will help if she's asked to (she's 12!). The room is currently a pale yellow colour, and we're painting over textured wallpaper (but not hideously textured!) so it's going to need at least 3 coats to cover it.

Elkieb, wow! Those colours are ... bright! She's not really a pinky kinda gal, iyswim ...

Hi Tolliver, it is a large room ... I think white would make it too bright, if you see what I mean, plus she's got white furniture so I'm not keen to make it too clinical looking.

I adore orange walls - but do pick your orange carefully- some mango orange type colours look very dull. Our dining room had a beautiful cheerful tangerine orange all - it is the exact glossy colour of a tangerine - we all love it as the room was quite dark before. We painted the rest of the walls a calico type colour and it worked really well - Im not that fond of grey ( lived in NW and walls would blend with sky!) - It is worth trying some testers to get that kind of citrus colour - it is a warm, bright colour - enjoy!

I painted my daughter's room bright red a few months ago, but a reddish orange would have worked, too.

One wall (the wall with the door) is postbox red, the opposite wall is dark charcoal grey and the other two are very light grey.

The dark grey wall has mirrored letters on it, which brighten it up and one of the light grey walls has a series of dark grey transfers on it (cat silhouettes, as she loves black cats)!

It works really well and we've have lots of compliments from everyone who's seen it Smile
