Anyone know anything about roman blinds?

Have finally found a blind I like for my bedroom, but it's a Roman blind as opposed to a roller blind. I've been happily cutting roller blinds down to fit in other rooms, can this be done with a Roman blind?? (Budget definitely will not stretch to made-to-measure). Thanks.

Not very easily. They have little wooden (or plastic) rods sewn into them to get them to fold as you pull them up. So unless you're good at cutting these, then re-stitching them up so they don't come out I wouldn't suggest it.

I ordered custom made ones online from blinds4you (or similar). Very reasonably priced, and I'm very happy with them. They might be cheaper than you think to get them made

Sorry - it was blinds2go.

No it would be a right pain to do. They are surprisingly easy to do from scratch though if you have a sewing machine. There are instructions on a site called Mydecozo . The machine isn't used for much, a lot done by hand and it's easy to get a professional finish.

Can you hang it outside the window so it overlaps each side, rather than inside the recess? Even three or four inches each side doesn't look too bad. Then the exact size isn't so critical.

Hmmm. Sounds like I'll have to leave that one. I don't fancy cutting it & sewing back up, and can't hang outside the recess. I'll have a look at the website suggested. I might have a go at making my own...in about 30 years, when I've retired! Grin Thanks all.
