Stoves vs Rangemaster

I have finally - after hours of research - narrowed down my search for the perfect 90 cm range to a Stoves Sterling or a lidded Rangemaster Toledo. I know there have been numerous threads on here, all of which I have read, but just for my OCD tendancies to be satisfied I'd appreciate your views on both. I have absolutely no room for anything bigger and with three boys I really need as much cooking capacity as possible. My only concern was the Rangemaster grill seemed rather small and close to the element?

really loved my old 90cm rangemaster toledo so we bought 120cm one for new house. Bottom drawer runner wheels are little and plastic, doors don't shut properly (little spindle thing that works as a catch moves). However, grill was great on the old one - not too close to the element.

I have a Stoves 90 cm Sterling range and love it. Have had a couple of issues- the numbers rubbed off the temp dial rather quickly ( ie after 6 months)but they sent me new one in 48 hrs. The fan in the multifunctional oven packed up after 11 months but again replaced quickly under warranty. I do a lot of baking and love the tower oven. Hth.

Thanks for your replies and thoughts ladies. Interestingly enough, my friend sold her old rangemaster and bought a new model and said she preferred old model. Much better built, grill didn't burn like the new model and regrets not having glass lid due to limited workspace. My preference is now the Stoves due to bigger tower oven but so frustrating they do not come with a lid. (To cover the debris when not bothered to clean!) Their 60cm mini range however does! Had an induction hob and built under single Neff at old house and loved loved loved induction but oven just not man enough for three growing lads. Am I being picky but stereo typical ranges should be dual fuel!?!?!?!? Too much choice and not enough decision making going on!

I have a Stoves Sterling 60cm "mini range", they only came out about a year ago. I have the all-gas one but wish I'd gone for dual fuel. It's a nice enough cooker but it obviously has some design fault because a little whirring fan comes on just to keep the fascia/knobs from overheating when you use the grill or ovens. The gas oven temperatures are all over the place, the top oven is really unreliable. But the grill is electric and very good. Glass lid and gas hob are great. TBH I think the build quality of my old Rangemaster was better but as others have said maybe they don't make them like that any more.

Have you looked at Leisure range cookers? Saw one in JOhn Lewis recently and the quaility looked good, nice and chunky, and it had a glass lid.

You can get induction ranges if that's what you'd prefer. Not cheap though.

Stereotypical ranges were only duel fuel because they were pre-induction though. I would go for induction every time now.

Thanks Pannacotta. The leisure range with lid only comes in 100 and have no room for anything bigger than 90. Have been over the rangemater with a fine toothcomb and feel that it has some "bits" I'm not happy with. Fossil - Stoves mini range was finished really nicely and is a contender. Am going to have another look later in the week. Twooter I totally agree with you induction is fabulous, and I know I'm just being fussy about the look I want.
