painting a 9 inch border around the room?

it has been suggested that it would look good to paint a border, approx 9 inches deep around the room starting at the top of the door cornice. The walls are plain and this is to bring the accent colour in to the of of the room. the decorator that we usually use has turned his nose up at it (how will i get an exact straight time? you'll be forever looking at it thinking you can see wonky bits! were his comments).
Do i just need to change my decorator Smile or has he got a point do you think?

I think borders are a bit passé, aren't they? They were very fashionable about 20 years ago, but not so much these days.

Borders are so out they are probably the next big thing.

We haven't enough info but it doesn't sound like a great idea.... Photos would help?

Um, wouldn't you get a straight line using something newfangled like masking tape? It's not something I'd choose but for almost two years we
had a "modern art" effect where I got as far as painting five tester colours in a T-shape of squares over our vomit-yellow bedroom wall, then took aaages to get aroud to the actual painting Blush...

we actually got quite used to the effect after a few weeks!!!

Not doing a border but tomorrow I'm painting one wall bright pink so need a straight line, I'll be using masking tape. I've done it before and it looked great so fingers crossed.

thank you for all the comments. We're got a professional coming to help us re design our bedroom (redesign is a bit strong a word for it, choose colours, fabrics etc) so we're going to ask for her advice on the other room in question. You guys have made me doubt the border idea but that's probably just because I'm very fickle Smile
