Quick, property brainiacs: full height larder unit - is 45cm too wide? is 60cm?

Fred title says it all.

Can a larder cupboard be too wide - so that you just see a see of tin/jar tops, and have to pick each one up to see what's in it?

TBH we don't use tins much and I'd prob be able to recognise the ones we do have. And maybe label jars on their lids?

That does sound a tad wide. Mine is 29 and a bit cm wide (that's the measurement of the front of the unit) and I think that much wider than that might defeat the object of having a pull-out larder with easy-access to everything. Having said that, I added some extra shelves (or baskets, as I believe they're called), which means that I can't necessarily see the tops of everything.

Oh, realisation dawns, you mean a pull-out one rather than a traditional style cupboard. Personally I think they are awkward so I will wander off, but 60cm is def too wide and will be really heavy and difficult to get to the middle. 30cm seems about right.

Mine's 39cm. I do have to pick bags/spice jars up to see what's in them sometimes. Jars aren't too bad.

Mine's 40cm too, give or take. It is fantastic and holds a mountain of stuff while keeping it easily accessible. I have a pretty out of control obscure-ingredient-buying habit and it's taken nearly 6 months to fill it to bursting point - which trust me means it is a BIG cupboard. So I do think 60cm might be over-the-top!

Thanks all and sorry for delay in responding. We've got a gap which could accomm anything up to 60cm - but if we go smaller, it won't mean that we'll be able to squeeze something else in iyswim. So I've just got to get the width that contains the most amount of 'obscure-ingredient-buying' - shakes unused pack of black onion seeds at libelulle - but is also not inaccessible. I reckons I'll go for 40cm (most kitchen co's) or 45cm (Ikea).

I have a 60 cm IKEA one but the shelves are not attached to the door but are individual drawers and baskets. 60cm pull-out would be too heavy, definitely

have a look at some blum internal drawers
there the new larder. a 600 pull out will be fine if you buy a good one.
if you buy a cheap one it wont last because of the weight.
always look at the what weight it will hold and the cheaper ones, the 600 holds around the same as a 300 pullout, pointless.
the internal drawers hold 30kg each and can upgrade to 50/60kg. Not really needed unless you want to stand in them.

You could have a 60cm larder and use pull out shelves designed for the IKEA PAx wardobes, like this

I think the drawers only come in 1m or 50cm widths but it looks like they cut down large drawers to do this, if that makes sense?

No need for ikea hacks, they do rationell drawers to fit 60cm wide carcasses.

Personally i'd go for a 60cm tall unit, with internal drawers and baskets over a larder unit that's going to lead to wasted space because it won't fill the space available.

Pull-out shelves are great too. We have a set of those as well, full of more ludicrous foodstuffs

pull out drawers are fabulous and easier to access than pull out larders IMHO
