Does this sound weird/horrible? Photo montage wallpaper...

We are just waiting to exchange on our first house (so yes I know it could all go horribly wrong!) but I am already thinking of decorating ideas. The place needs complete redecoration (dodgy 70's style currently). I have ideas for most rooms but I was thinking I would really like to use the millions of photos we have of family and friends that are currently just sitting on our PC and never really looked at. I have found a company where you send loads of pictures and they make wallpaper from them. You can do each roll with different pictures so they wouldn't be repeated. I thought it would be quite cool to have the entire downstairs loo decorated like this. Is that weird? I figure that is one room where you can do something a bit wacky.

Just one wall would be good, but not the whole space. The wall that the loo is on.

Charmingbaker · 15/02/2013 18:32

I had a friend who did this in her downstairs loo years ago. She didn't use a company, just photocopied pictures onto A3 paper and pasted these onto the wall. It looked great.

sooperdooper · 15/02/2013 18:35

I was about to say no, tacky if in a main room, but in a small space like a downstairs loo I think it'd be pretty cool/kitsch :) I saw something similar in a lift in a museum once and it was fab

AngryFeet · 15/02/2013 18:37

Really? A3 paper? I suppose if I found something thick like wallpaper that might be easier.

For a loo, yes.

In a large dining room - FREAKY Smile

Actually, I'm not so sure I'd want to see all those people smiling at me as I did my business...

Honestly, all done on a photocopier. It sounds like it would look very DIY but it didn't at all (it was a very cool, stylish house). She must have had 10-20 different sheets which she made up by overlaying lots of photos. She then made multiple copies of each sheet. I never asked what sort of paper she used, I just know she did it on a photocopier so I always assumed it was photocopy paper. Because she used lots of photos on each sheet and they were arrangle at different angles you didn't notice she had used smaller sheets of paper, in fact people were always asking her where she got her wallpaper from. It was always funny when someone first used the loo because you always assumed it was wallpaper and as you looked you started to see people you recognised. Definitely a great talking point when she had a party!

I love the idea and think it would look fabulous - in fact can you link to the company cos my downstairs loo needs sorting!

PigletJohn · 15/02/2013 18:55

Opinions will differ.

Mine? Barmy.

AKissIsNotAContract · 15/02/2013 18:56

I love that idea for our downstairs loo. Can you link to the company that does it?

Screaminabdabs · 15/02/2013 18:57

Yes, please - let's have a linky. Smile Sorry to be barmy in PigletJohn's eyes. Blush

Screaminabdabs · 15/02/2013 18:57

Think I might do the whole house.

How about using photo frame wallpaper - like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.photoweeklyonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/frames-wallpaper-5.jpg&imgrefurl=www.photoweeklyonline.com/frames-wallpaper-is-great-for-photographs/&h=399&w=600&sz=296&tbnid=0bsa5WA6Y9TJsM:&tbnh=87&tbnw=131&zoom=1&usg=__v767nCwJgxqKoWpjxGUDAReqMvI=&docid=PffMdKuByP2T_M&hl=en&sa=X&ei=SIUeUfXmOOqm4ATOj4CIAg&ved=0CFAQ9QEwBQ&dur=2880" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here where the wall paper has lots of empty frames on it and you can just add your photos to it. Would be easy to redo as well if you got bored.

This is the website www.bagsoflove.co.uk/interiors/photos-on-wallpaper.aspx. If you scroll down there is a section called montage wallpaper.

I quite like the idea. Dh would hate it. Damn.

TheFallenNinja · 15/02/2013 20:03

Don't they always find one of them at the end of a serial killer movie?

greenhill · 15/02/2013 20:09

Would you want to look at it with a hangover / migraine?

Would it look too colourful?

I'd had a similar idea when pregnant, I've still not done it and don't have any photos up either. It was the hormones, in my case.

AngryFeet · 15/02/2013 20:15

I don't think it would look too colourful. With white skirting, pale floor and white loo/sink it would be fine. There is always an upstairs loo if it gets too much Grin.
